The present study was designed to evaluate effects of Clitoria ternatea extract could affect ethanol withdrawal-induced complication like memory dysfunction in mice. This study investigated the role of Clitoria ternatea extract (100 and 200 mg/kg) against melatonin (10 mg/kg) on ethanol withdrawal induced complications using the novel object recognition test (NORT). Swiss albino mice received an ethanol-containing liquid diet (600 kcal/l) for 10 days and were tested for withdrawal signs and symptoms after termination of the diet. Clitoria ternatea extract (100 and 200 mg/kg) showed increase in open arm entries, novel object exploration ratio and decrease in close arm entries than ethanol control mice. EECT also possess anti-oxidant action. The histopathological studies also signified that the cognitive impairment in mice was mainly due to degeneration of neurons in functional zones of hippocampus that controls the memory and related behavior.
